Non, crocodiles aren't part of the dinosaur clade. You can tell because of how their legs poke out to the sides, rather than sticking out underneath them.

There are a lot of dinosaurs left actually, they are called birds. But I don't know whether that is already reflected in children's literature.

There are neo-dinosaurs all over. We just call them birds. :) Ostriches and emus are good examples of Dino-like birds
