I’d choose invisibility to be able to slip away from awkward situations ^^
Yeah, if you can have just one power, might as well go all-out.
I’d want the power of deus ex machina.
Why? Because deus ex machina is a contrived plot device in literature, defined as the arbitrary introduction of something that had never been introduced before, but gets the characters out of a seemingly hopeless situation.
I’d want that. When my planet’s about to be inevitably blown up by evil aliens, or I’m about to fall off a cliff, or Darth Vader is going to decapitate me, and there’s nothing that any regular mortal could do about it…
SUDDENLY, I develop the power to defeat the aliens and save the world from destruction! I never had that power before, but hey, deus ex machina, man! And SUDDENLY, the hand of a giant friendly robot catches me as I fall to my death off the cliff! Thank you, giant robot whom no one even knew existed until it conveniently saved my life! And SUDDENLY…oh look, a lightsaber in my shirt pocket! Take that, Vader! FSCHWAA! (Vader dies) Hmm…now where did this lightsaber come from? Thanks, power of deus ex machina!
Dicky is going to become the devourer of worlds? Deus ex machina! I miraculously develop the power to get Dicky to barf those worlds right back up! I never had this power before (and I kinda don’t want to…I don’t want to see what a barfed-up world looks like), but hey, whatever!
Or maybe he kills me and devours my world and there’s no hope of escape…and then I wake up. Wow, what a vivid dream I had! It almost seemed like I was going to die, and none of the readers/watchers of my adventures had any clue it was a dream! I’m so glad I woke up before anyone could kill me! No, readers/watchers, this is not a contrived way for me to cheat death. It’s just my awesome superpower! Or maybe I DO die, but I miraculously come back to life because deus ex machina, man! Best superpower ever!
